Ummera Smoked Products to use triple gold medal win to launch export drive in UK

Timoleague, 15th July 2010

Ummera Smoked Products plans to leverage its 3 star gold medal award at the 2010 Great Taste Awards in London, the Oscars of the Food World, as a platform for export success in Britain. The award for its Ummera Smoked Silver Hill Duck Breast is the latest in a long line of Great Taste Award medals to be won by the Timoleague, Co. Cork family owned business.

Expressing delight at Ummera’s win, Anthony Creswell, who owns the business said “We’ve worked very hard over the last number of months to get ready to relaunch in Britain. We’ve had a number of product tastings in the London area, and we exhibited on the Irish Exporters Association stand at Food & Drink Expo 2010 in Birmingham last March, but the most important thing for us was to get the taste right. It’s wonderful that the Great Taste judges think our smoked duck is as good as we do”.

Ummera Smoked Products, whose range includes Smoked Organic Salmon, Organic Gravadlax, Smoked Chicken and Smoked Dry Cured Bacon Rashers, sources its duck from Silver Hill Foods in Co. Monaghan, who themselves have won 7 Great Taste Awards in the last two years.

Like many Irish artisan food producers, Ummera has seen a fall off in business in the UK over the last 2 years with the recent weakness of Sterling, but with winning this award the business is now well placed for renewed success in Britain.

Ummera Smoked Products are already available in the finest food stores and delicatessens throughout Ireland, such as the Avoca shops and Fallon & Byrne in Dublin, and Ardkeen Quality Food Store in Waterford.
